Craft Your New Career With BIBA Academy
At BIBA Academy, we’ve helped launch thousands of careers over the years. We are so proud to count Elise du Fresne as one of our newest recruits to the Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416). What makes Elise so special is that, before enrolling as a student, she worked for nine years as our Student Services Coordinator. When asked why she chose to train with us, Elise responded that she loves the BIBA culture and the creativity in the air. She also loves the fact that the educators are still involved in the industry and take a very keen interest in entering (and winning!) hair and photographic competitions.
“I wouldn’t have chosen to learn my new craft anywhere else!” says Elise. “I love being a part of an inspiring environment with passionate people. I train in Fitzroy and the CBD and it’s so hands-on that I don’t even need to have an apprenticeship with a salon elsewhere. Everything at BIBA Academy is tailored to suit the individual student. Each week, I complete two days of course training in Fitzroy (where I’ve just completed my first cluster of units) and, as part of the course, I’m able to do another day as a salon assistant at BIBA Academy in Swanston Street, Melbourne. This is where I get incredible opportunities to use my new-found skills in a real salon setting as part of the team. This is something I wouldn’t be able to do in a normal TAFE/classroom course. By doing the course part-time, too, I can balance my life as a young mum, and build a career that will take me anywhere I want to go in the future. Having worked for BIBA Academy in a different capacity, for close to a decade already, I knew I was entering a vibrant atmosphere, full of amazingly knowledgeable and talented people. The course offers me flexibility now and will continue to give me exhaustive options to work anywhere in the world, full-time or part-time, and once I qualify, I’ll have the eventual choice to open my own salon someday.”
At BIBA Academy, you can train at your own pace and we’ll help you through the process of applying for any government funding that might be available to you. Our goals are to make you feel welcome, to inspire you and to give you the skills you need to succeed.
“What excites me, too,” says Elise, “is that I’m aspiring to establish a new salon in the outer green-wedge area of Melbourne, where it’s quite conservative. There’s an open door there for me to add a fresh and fashion-forward approach to hairdressing as a service because of the elite professionalism I can gain from doing my training with BIBA. BIBA’s reputation is world-class and I’m delighted to be able to start on the road to fulfilling my dreams with such a fabulous group of people.”
